Today I'll start out with another article by Todd and his peers. The article is: Stable isotope discrimination between soft tissues of green sea turtles Chelonia mydas and their diet. Marine Ecology Progress Series 308: 271-278
In this article there are 43 references listed. The most common source listed (5 times) is the same series as this article appears in: Marine Ecology Progress Series. Once again Biology of the Sea Turtles (CRC Press) is mentioned. Biology of the Reptilia (Academic Press), Protein deposition in animals (Butterworths) and Stable isotope ratios as tracers in marine aquatic food webs (Blackwell) are the only text references made.
There is definitely a different mix of journals referenced. Oecologia, a peer reviewed international journal focused on biomedical and life science and ecology. Canadian journals are well represented: Canadian Journal of Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences, Canadian Journal of Zoology ( a publication funded by the National Research Council of Canada), are each mentioned three times.
Ecology specific journals include Oikos a scientific journal published by the Nordic Society, specialists in the field of ecology. Ecology magazine, Trends in Ecological Evolution, Functional Ecology, and Annual Review of Ecology & Systematics.
Herpetologica, a peer reviewed journal devoted to articles that further the knowledge of the biology of amphibians and reptiles. Geochim et Cosmochimica Acta (published by the Geochemical & Meteoritical Society), Paleogeography Paleoclimatology Paleoecology journal rounds out an esoteric group.
Journal of the Marine Biological Association, US Fish & Wildlife Services, Principles of Biochemistry, Marine Mammal Science, Condor magazine (yes, the bird) and a Technical Memo from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration conclude the reference list.
Again, as we saw in the previous post, journals play the most important part of sourcing for these scientists. There are virtually no references from an online source.
